The Hollywood Babylon Prize

In honor of our first story, "Hollywood Babylon" by Devan Sagliani, we offer a cash prize to the best writer of each year. Its purpose is to purchase all rights to the winning story (minus unrelated rights). Eventually, in a decade or so, we'll publish an anthology.

Fiction

Deadline: May 1st, 2010

3,000 words or less. You could send a 1,200-word short story and three others of 600 words each and be within the guidelines. Please clearly declare your submissions in the subject line, as in "Submission / Name / Title(s)." Submissions are to be pasted in the body of your e-mail unless otherwise requested. (No attachments!) Please avoid excessive formatting–a proof of the work will be shown to you before publication.

Submissions should be literary in nature. Fan fiction, faith-based nonsense, unoriginal science-fiction, interviews, reviews, or ethnic niche material will never be considered. There are other venues for these works. We want to hear about how you lost your virginity to a junkie prostitute in a drunken backseat romp when you were sixteen while your mom drove you around the block playing Sinatra. We prefer sublimely profane and bizarre outlaw fiction. We hate gimmicks. Anemic writers beware: we don't give a fuck about you.

We accept only previously unpublished work. We are interested in publishing first time writers. We demand one-time publishing rights and permission to archive your work on this site. All stories will be hosted in multiple static formats, so you can link to us. Where you take your work after us is up to you. All of our time traveling visionary editors currently hold day jobs so please be patient. Laboriously slow response times irk us too and we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner. If over a month passes, feel free to submit your work again or harass us about it. You won't be the first and we won't hold it against you.

Art

Subversive, surreal, and innovative artists and photographers are strongly encouraged to send in a few of their best works in an easily accessible digital format.
